Guwahati

Guwahati (Assamese: গুৱাহাটী, spelled as Guwāhāti - with diacritics) formerly known as Gauhati is a metropolis and is the largest city of Assam in India, with a population of 1,100,000 (2011 census). It is also the largest metropolis in the north-east region of India. It is said to be the "Gateway" of the North East Region. Dispur, the capital of the Indian state of Assam, is located within the city is the seat of Government of Assam.

The Assam Chief Minister inagurated a war memorial at Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati. The memorial is home to a MiG-27ML fighter bomber, a veteran of the Kargil Operations.

Continuing the tradition of Science Centers with aircraft, The Guwahati Science Center was given a MiG-21 FL Airframe a few years ago. The aircraft was previously seen flying at MOFTU.

Air Force Station at Borjhar, on the outskirts of Guwahati is home to the 19 Wing of the Indian Air Force. One of the premier stations in Eastern Air Command, it is a major transport base, with a long historical record in the Second World War and the 1971 war with Pakistan. It is home to a MiG-21, as well as a Gnat.
